There are plenty of videos on You Tube showing how to disassemble a tilt steering column to tighten it up and replace the turn signal switch, but I cannot find anything about the tilt/telescope column in my 74 CJ5. It is apparently an early model and the ignition key is not on the column, and there is not "anti-theft " lock ring in the housing. I thought it would be almost the same as the ones in the videos, but it's not. I cannot get the turn signal switch out. It seems to be part of an assembly that includes a shaft that attaches to the turn signal lever. So to pull the switch out, I would have to remove the lever from the assembly. I thought it would just screw out, like the tilt lever did. But it doesn't. When the turn signal lever would not unscrew by hand, I gently tried it with a pair of channel lock pliers, but it doesn't want to move. So I'm not even sure that it is threaded and I don't want to break it. Any suggestions? Does anyone know where I can find more information, a video, or an exploded drawing of the tilt/telescope column?

PS: The website for Steering Column Services, a company that rebuilds these things, says, "We service GM, Ford, Mopar (Dodge, Chrysler Plymouth) and Jeep columns from approximately 1969 to 2000. The column designs we service have the IGNITION KEY IN THE COLUMN. We do not service older designs (with the key in the dash) as they require different parts which we most likely do not have." So they don't service the type in my vehicle.

It has a flat end with a hole. Its screwed to a nylon turn signal assembly. Its not original to your 74. Look up GM steering for details.
