help on saginaw steering

    just one more qustion before i dive into my saginaw steering project.
    do i have to modify the front cross member to fit the steering shaft correctly? did any one else encounter this problem? any comments or advice will be a great help

    Dave, if you want some pictures of mine, I can send them to you and answer pretty much any question you need answered. Mine is finished but the body going back on in a week or so and hooking the column to the box.

    Done this multiple times - doing (another) one right now - first question is what is your rig? What are you putting in - power or manual?

    Lots o options on the install. I have my favorite way and others have theirs.

    I would like to see the pics also. I did install my saginaw on my '71 CJ5 and had to cut the cross member and weld in some home made support brackets just to be sure. It looks good and works good but wont tell untill the body is back on and running.

    Didn't cut the cross on my '71, nor the grille as I've seen on some other jobs. Did notch the motor mount about 3/4" square for steering shaft clearance.

    pictures would be GREAT my jeep is a 1970 and i am converting to power steering i allready have a GM 4 bolt power steering box and have boxed in my frame horn , when i boxed it in i added some angle iron spacers as to not crush the frame but i just couldnt figure out how to get that shaft where i wanted to go my email is deputydave_00@hotmail.com thanks again
