My next step with my cj is SPOA. Has anyone done this. I was wondering haw many degrees to add to the spring perches so shims would not be needed. Also has anyone purchases spring perches for the dana 44 and the dana 27. I have not found any, I am just considering removing the ones I have now and reusing them. Thanks in advance

I just did this with 2.5 lift springs, mock the axle in place and put it a couple degrees below perfect alignment, this will allow the unavoidable axle wrap while not allowing it to bind your yoke. I would just buy new perches they are only like 12 bucks or so plus I left my old ones on incase I didnt like the set up it would be really easy to put back.keep in mind you are about to open up a can of worms.

Be prepared for steering issues, shock mounting is a challenge, axle wrap can be bad if you are using stock springs so a trac bar may be necessary. Plus I ran into problems with my E brake reaching and ofcoarse extended brakelines were necessary. I do not intend to scare you away from this method of lift I just want to help prepare you for it. I love the off road performance of my lift it suffered on road but that could be attributed to the tires. They are big fat bias ply swampers, By the way why did you choose SOA, if it was to save money might want to think about it a little longer.

No its not a money issue. I used to work in a 4x4 shop part time when I was a Marine, I always thought it was a good idea since it seems like jeep should have installed them this way to begin with. International scouts are the same way. most other 4x4 were spring over origionally. As for opening up a bag of worms, that seems to be what i am good at. I bought my jeep with a dauntless and t 86 just tp goof off in and now it is powered by a small block chevy with a t 18 trans. Just something to do I guess.

Defiantely get new perches. I got mine from rubicon express. i think they have the skiny CJ ones. Gt the antiwrap ones, they are good. Trying to remove the stock perches is a PIA. Shocks are defiantely something to think about. I ended up makeing mine angle towards the center for the rear shocks, and i welded a cut down ubolt for a lower shock mount to the old perches. Butch but worked pretty good. For the front i made hoops and welded another rod on top of the perches for the bottom shock mount. I did the same thing now, but i made a "U" bracket and welded that to the ubolt plate. I am kind of limited to shock length right now, but will probably fix that later on. Are you using CJ springs or waggie springs? Do you have saginaw steering already. If now, then steering will be a little more tougher. I didnt have any steering problems except for the pitman arm making the drag link a little too clsoe to the main tie rod and they binded.

Actually, Scouts are spring under, but you're right, many 4x4's are spring over from the factory. If you can't find the spring pads you need call R&P. They stock them for about $20 a pair. I like the idea of the ones Dan used though with the anti-wrap feature. You still may need an anti-wrap bar though depending on the pliability of your springs.Nickmil.

You are correct Nick, thats what I was trying to say, scouts are spring under, and I have converted seversal to spring over. Scouts are like jeeps. But after spending several hours in the garage last night I have decided not to go soa just because of the thickness of the spring pack. It would equate to approx 5 inches of likt. Too much for what I need to do.I am thinking of spacing the spring mounts on the frame with 3 inch blocks. Spoke with another cj5 guy here on the forum and he recommends it. I saw pics and it looked real clean. Just pondering, I need to get the motor/trans swap complete first.
