While I have my body still off and putting my Jeep back together and everything is still clean, what have you guys done for bump stops or extensions for them. I have had rancho 2 1/2" lift springs on my jeep from a PO for more than 14 years now, the originals are still in place above the axle tubes, Rancho and most companies actually call for extensions or longer bumpstops, what have you guys done for this or made to use and how long are they? I also don't have the little snubbers that go behind the front axle tube and in front of the rear spring mount.

I simply used the extensions that came with the rancho lift parts kit. They dropped them down an inch or so. You can buy all sorts of aftermarket bumpstops. If you have your original bumpstops you can simply build extensions out of some 2" tube and some 3/16"x2" bar stock.

If you use the rancho extensions I would recommend addind a tube to support the middle of it where the axle hits. Mine crushed down while I was wheeling I had to bend them back. Here is a pic with support installed.

    Hope that helps,

I bought and installed the Rancho red poly bumpstops on the extended bracket. I got the ones 2" longer than stock. Been running them since '97. With my 33x12.50s and D30 ront, the only rubbing I ever get is the normar inside of the rear tire on the wheelhouse. None up front, no matter how stuffed or crossed up.

Here's a really dumb question.

What is the main purpose of bump stops?
Is it to keep tires from rubbing?
Is it to protect the springs from flexing to far?
    Something else?
    Just wondering.

I think one good reason for bump stops is to prevent damage. If you compress the suspension too far all kinds of bad things could happen - depending on your setup.

The front drive shaft can hit the starter, shocks could break, tires can hit fenders, etc.. I'm sure others can think of more.

Now I'm starting to think about getting some bump stop extensions for my rig. . . .

I've never had them on Lulu. As stiff as the springs are - unless I jumped it over an airplane or something, I don't think it is possible to compress them all the way down...
