Can I remove the front bearing through the front? I have some play in between the two front bearings. Do I need to get it out or just setting the preload will suffice? I removed the front seal and slinger and the yoke is busted. I don't plan to use it much, but I want to keep it and functional.

Can't hurt to replace the bearings and seals while it's apart. Get an FSM. You can find them floating on the web.

In order to replace the pinion bearings/cups and to adjust bearing preload, you have to drive the pinion out through the diff. Unfortunately, this means removing the carrier...which requires pulling the axles, etc. Not a small job.

You could try a new yoke torqued on to spec, see if that takes up the end play. Might get lucky.

The axles are out already as I am rebuilding them. It started as a simple knukcle repair. Now I'm debating whether to go all out and use it as a learning experience just in case I need to do the rear or just leave it as is, since I don't foresee a lot of usage of the front traction. Anyways, a new pinion seal and yoke are going to be installed.
