Superjeep Registry Thread

My intention with this thread is to attempt to gather some information on 1973 CJ5 Super Jeep by starting a repository for what information is available from past or present owners. Here is a map of data location on the tag. I borrowed the image below from a post by TimG.

I'll start with mine



And the dash. Note black bezel on oil pressure gauge. I thought nothing of it but saw another Super Jeep with same black bezel. Radio has AMC faceplate so either factory or dealer installed I suppose.

While I have the vinyl dash pad, it is not mounted in this photo. It requires some repair, and I also need to find the wire spring clips that attach them to the windshield frame.

No photo of the tag on this one, but VIN is J3F835TA56886 according to the add. This yellow appears brighter than mine. Even features protected from sunlight are not as bright. Maybe an effect of the photography. I'm not questioning the legitimacy, it looks like a Super Jeep to me.

This is a good photo of the generic rubber flare material as opposed to the molded type that are common to all later models. I read somewhere that this was first Jeep from Toledo with flares, though I have read that these rubber flares were available as a dealer option. My jeep front and rear fender cutouts have a strap of steel welded to the edge to give a mounting point for the panel clips that were used to attach them. I do not know how dealers would have installed the flare material without this lip. Perhaps they were attached by screws through the sides of the fender edge rather than to the horizontal strap.

This one was listed in 2014 as all-original with less than 4k miles, and was priced at $115k. Not sure what it actually sold for (or if it sold):

Yep it's in Colorado. Kinda creepy to have google point you to a thread and see pictures you took show up. That one is mine.

 

I’ve worked on two of these in the past couple years. First one was originally green, but has been repainted orange (Clemson tiger country around here).

 

Second one is still mostly original. Original paint and decals. Nice driver.

I don’t have a picture of the VIN tag on this one.

 

Just seeing this thread, thanks to the OP for creating it; @Chilly are you still active?
I was a senior in HS in '73 when my dad passed. Mom says "need to get you a car so you can get around and hopefully pull some weight". Picked up a very nice M38-A1 for cheap from a local mil school I attended but quickly found out that even tune-up parts were tough to come by. Luckily a local Jeep dealer had a mechanic in the Reserves and he "redirected" a few parts for us. Realizing this couldn't continue Mom suggest she co-sign for a brand new CJ-5 equipped with a snow plow so I could pay it off. Picked out a standard CJ-5 in orange, but while awaiting the snow plow some asshat breaks in to the dealer and steals it (drives it right through the bay door!). Dealer calls and asks up to come by to get the bad news and the good news, the latter being that I'm getting a "Super Jeep" as a replacement. Did a lot of plowing with it till I decided to move west, driving out to CA sans plow. Joined a 4x club and did some exploring, and then for some very dumb reason(youth) I sold it to buy a 46 2A that some nozzle put a 327 in it. That thing was a nightmare/money pit...
The photo above of the brand new yellow SJ sure brings back memories. Someday I hope to find the VIN of mine and maybe trace it down. But for now it's fun seeing all the SJ's that I hope are still around.
