Not Quite Yet

Looks great John! The 37's fit nicely. I wonder how the jeep will perform compared to Posimoto.

 

Well Sir the new Jeep certainly looks nice. It appears you have succeeded in meeting your first goal of, a little more comfort. As for the spry part, not so sure. As compared to Posi how does the height compare? An older man wants to know.

 

With snow and rain on the way today it may be awhile before I am able to get out on the trail and see. It's bigger than Posi in every way so I'm sure there will be a learning curve while I try not to bash trees and rocks. Hahaha. I need rocker protection before I can get serious with this rig. Rest assured I will post up when I can get this Jeep out to stretch it's legs. May have to change my user name to Long John Silver (LJ).

 

Well it's taller than Posi but I haven't taken any measurements yet. I am going to incorporate some kind of stirrup into the rocker guards. Maybe chain or cable, I haven't decided yet. Looks like I need to find a bumper sticker that says "Bought, Not Built". Haha

You heading into the Rubicon for your annual trip? A few from our club are heading up Fri early AM but staying a Wentworth and making day trips. Looks like some snow heading that way.

 

Took some measurements yesterday and was somewhat surprised. The LJ is only 1/2" higher from the ground at the rockers and the same 1/2" higher at the bottom of the door opening. I have more clearance at the skidplate though, about 19 1/2". Bumper to bumper the LJ is 13' 6" and Posi is 11' 6"

 

A few observations now that I have driven the LJ more. Although the interior is a lot more comfortable than the CJ, it is still fairly confined and except for the AC and roll up windows it's not that different from Posi. I just rode in a 2016 JK and the interior seems huge compared to the CJ and the LJ. It also had heated leather seats and power windows/door locks. I'm feeling much better about buying the LJ now. I'd have to say it is the last of the Jeep series that still retains the overall feel of an early CJ. '06 was the last years of the TJ series and I'm really glad I bought this one. Snow wheeling tomorrow. Hope to have some pics.

I love LJs. Modern yet not too much plastic and electronics like the newer jeeps. If I were to sell my car and CJ and go to one vehicle I'd be dreaming of an LJ with 33s, a well designed mild suspension lift, manual transmission, and the banks turbo kit.

Will be interested to see how you like it in the snow. Must be heavier than Posi, right? How are you enjoying the auto?

 

Not if you are still running the stock 4.10 gears. It's not low enough with the 3.6 IMO. You just about have to use the 5.13's with it, at least with the No Significant Gear 370 trans.

 

So, I am running 5.13 r&p with 37" Iroks and the LJ is the last year for the 4.0 straight 6. It's not a powerhouse by any means, rated at 190 hp, but it's a strong runner. The tranny is the 42RLE 4 speed OD. 1st gear is 2.84 Combine the Rubicrawler's 2.74 and the 4 to 1 and you get 10.96 to 1 for a crawl ratio of 159 to 1 in first gear, not counting what the torque converter can do for you.

 

Those straight sixes have a ton of torque and will last forever. Awesome crawl ration, way better than my SM465.

 

So, next up is the t-case doubler aka Rubicrawler. Just waiting to move into my new house where I will have a 900 sf shop to work in, with real heat. Can't wait for escrow to close. Bye bye Kalifornia, hello Nevada.
