I'm going to replace the timing set on my 225. What quality of parts/ brand should I look for? I just want something that's not going to stretch for a long time and isn't going to break the bank. Also for those of you who have done this before- What other parts/ repairs should I look for while I have this apart? Part sources for those?

    Thanks,
    Josh

I have recently researched this until my eyes bled.

Go with the double roller Edelbrock at Advance Auto. $48.88 IIRC. Made by Cloyes. I think the Cloyes will actually run alot higher for the same chain :? Do not use the tensioners as the chain will shred the plastic "pucks" and get stuck in your pickup screen.

High end choice would be the Rollmaster around $120. Comp Cam's is also a Cloyes.

I checked with Summit Racing online. They list two separate sets one Edelbrock and one Cloyes, the Cloyes was more, what's the deal there?

I dunno. Others here also use the Edelbrock. If you buy from Summit, you will have a $10 handling fee. Advance won't charge you and you can order online and pickup locally. Make sure you get the the right part number for the 225 but I think the even and odd fire use the same number. Someone will comment as this topic came up recently

My newly rebuilt motor is setting in the garage with a brand new set of Edelbrock roller chains. I would not skimp on something like this, my choices would be Edelbrock, Cloyes, Comp cams, Milodon or another top rated company. I bought my Edelbrock set at Auto zone for $48-$49. My motor will be fired up and tuned in 2 more weeks.

Elgin? Anyone? Anyone? Go to http://www.enginepartspro.com/
click on supplier lines scroll down, click on Elgin. What do you think? Expensive glitsy Edelbrock or other "racing" stuff or proven high tech OEM supplier with non-glorified name for cheaper?

IMO Don't buy the Elgin. I have read too many threads on other boards where people have short changed themselves to find that the chain stretched real fast. Same goes for the $12 Autozone models. The only safe single chain is a GM. That will still be higher than the Edelbrock. I was told that S.A. Gear makes good ones too but I would be afraid of ebaY units --even new. May be a bad production run that escaped into the open market. Don't take the chance.

    Edelbrock won't short change you
