I have a 62 CJ-5 I have had it for over 20 years and I want to keep it as stock as possible. I have a question concerning a cable running from the front of the bell housing to the crossmember under the tranny. It looks to be about 5/16 and aprox 14-16 inches long. The bellhousing end turns into a threaded rod and the crossmember end has a small ball poured on the end and locks into a slotted flange
on the crossmember. (this is best I can explain it) Does anyone konw what this is for and what it is called?
Also I have a small ashtray slides in and out , in the middle of the dash just to the right of the speedo cluster, was this an option? or should it be removed and the hole fixed?

The cable arrangement is stock from the factory, and appears to be some sort of torque-control device.

The ashtray is likely a dealer-installed option, as most options were on Jeeps. If it is in decent condition, I'd clean it up and leave it in there.
