As I am cleaning up the body parts to reassemble my rusty Jeep, I discovered something curious. After removing all the paint, it seems that the windshield frame is too clean.

Should there be a channel at the top of the frame for the cloth top? Looking closer, it seems that something metal was tack-welded here and removed.

Where would I find a replacement for the missing channel? Do top kits come with this channel?

Oof, that sucks J. I've seen 'em around, but I can't recall where. Maybe ebaY. :?

I wouldn't expect any softop kits to have this included in the hardware. Consider placing a WTB ad for a channel. Someone might have a toasted frame with a salvageable channel. :)

BTW, I thought you've been around a lot longer than Jul of '04. I remember that avatar. What's it of?

I'm with Alan, that certainly does stink. I wonder if the channel was removed because of some sort of fitment problem with a hardtop. Judging by the paint, it almost looks like there was a hardtop attached to the windshield frame.

Try this page. They have a couple of different types of channels.

July 04 is right; I used that Avatar on the G since 2003. The scene is from the PotA series; vehicle is an M422A1 (Mighty Mite); driver is me (digital picture magic by my brother who owns the Mite).

    Oof indeed!

I tried the link and got a long list of window channel visors (mostly for big Fords). If I search specifically 53-69 CJ5, CJ6 i get:

No items were found matching the key word "CJ5 channel"

I have a 70 cj5 that had a hardtop installed at the factory. It is not and never was equipped with the channel for the soft top.

It was a fleet buy from the factory.
