I am moving on to my tcase for my t18 swap and did a search on the bronco mod for the dana 20 in which you were asking about which gears to use. Did you ever find the gear you were looking for? Do you have any insights on the mod if you did it? Would you do it again?

I havnt done it, still debating on doing it. I have the dana 20 sitting on the shelf. I found the gear it is about $180-200 from a bronco parts place. But i may add another CV joint to my rear shaft, this will be less than the cost for the Tcase gear so i think i will do that. From everything i have read it seems pretty straight forward. I am still keeping the Tcase i may put it in the commando if/when i get it back. I would then have to make the decision to go with the 18 gears, or the low gear kit, since if you are going to spend the money on one gear, it may be better to save a little more and get all new gears to make the 3.15 to 1 Dana 20.

    Danstew,

There is a bronco graveyard website at www.broncograveyard.com . The specific link is: http://broncograveyard.com/products/cat/13/26/11625 . Is this the correct gear? Nickmill, if you could chime in here too that would be cool. There is a T-shift tcase for sale here in my home town for 200cdn. Is it only the T-shift tcase that has the correct gear?

    rocnrol,

Yeah we should get in touch. I have to go visit the inlaws in Edmonchuck this weekend. I will call you when I get back.

sounds good karl ;) the bronco gear # needed is 18 8 58 with 33 tooth count. but a $105 is steep for one used gear.

upon futher thought it might be that 18 8 37. the info i have says to get one from a t style shifter, but give the 18 8 58 #. i am trying hard to remember, but when i went diggin thru my buddies colection of old bronco stuff, i dont remember finding a 18 8 58.... but that 18 8 37 is kinda ringing a bell :? dangit  this is why one shouldnt drink while hanging out in the grage with buddies

well figure it out karl ;)

I'm ignorant about this, but I do remember this post from Nick:

"We went through all this a couple of weeks back. JNutter even chimed in on this. You can put the 18 guts in a 20 case. You can put the 18 gears in the 20 case and keep it a 20 with centered rear output. The key is the Ford Early Bronco 6 cylinder gear. The # is 18-8-37 NOT 18-8-58. The 18-8-58 is from the Ford early bronco V-8 transfer case and it won't mesh correctly. They built the early bronco with two different low range model 20 transfer cases. You need the gear from the early one, sometimes called a 6 cylinder t-case or a T-shift case referring to the type of linkage. Do a search on this. Someone had even found pricing for that gear new. The thread told pretty much exactly what needed to be done and what parts were needed. By the way, Good morning! Nickmil."

Yeah, what Timgr said :D .
The 18-8-37 gear is the one you need from T-shift transfer case. It's the early one used in the early 6 Cylinder Bronco's. You will need to grind a bit on the inside of the case to clear this gear. Plan on mock assembling the transfer case a couple of times to check for clearance. Can do it with just the gear and the rear output assembly. Should have at least .010" clearance around the gear to allow for flex and heat expansion. Other than that it's pretty straight forward. You may also need to clearance the inside of the bottom pan rail slightly to get in the intermediate gear depending on what order you assemble the gears in. Jack O'Brien was making those gears new but don't have the contact info. Nickmil.
