I aquired a d18 twin stick and I am looking at swaping my single stick D18. My current single stick has a worn output shaft bearing and maybe a bad shaft. I pulled my case out of the Jeep this weekend and was compairing them. Look at the opening where it attaches to the T-14a tranny. The openings are different. My single stick has an adapter ring(pictured in fron of the case)

Will I have any problem mounting the other case up?
My current case is out of 1970 the other one I have no idea.

looks like small hole vs big hole. front covers (what you need for the twin stick) is the same.

Another question: the double stick has the E-brake removed and has a yoke. My current drive shaft has the 4-bolt square "yoke" that bolts to the brake assembly. I need a new u-joint anyway....Can I get rid of the 4-bolt square "yoke" and connect the driveshaft with the new u-joint to the yoke on the double stick xfer case?
I think the drive shaft length will be ok. Any input....please.

I tried to change over to the differant yoke, but I found that the driveline would need to be changed. You'll have to use the yoke that goes with your driveline.

You can remove the E-brake and it will still work.

A bit off topic, but one of your pictures indicated to me something that has been somewhat of a mystery to me, and will aid people in the future that are considering the use of a Warn Overdrive.

    see this pic:

you can clearly see the difference in the casting on the top of the transfer cases. warn offered a front shift OD and later in production, made a rear shift OD. you can see in the picture how the linkage for the front shift OD would interfere with the casting on the large hole dana 18. A rear shift OD would work with either case (and is all that Saturn now offers), but the front shift unit would work only with the small hole case. This is something to consider in addition to the spline/tooth counts if you come across an old Warn OD.
Just thought I'd throw that in there. I posted a thread a while ago about the front/rear shift OD's and never found out exactly what change took place in the casting of the dana 18. This pic clearly indicates it.

So......bolting up a Big hole D18 OR bolting up a small hale D18 to a T-14a transmission......I shouldn't have any problem? Either will work?

Yeah the twin-stick unit should fit no problem by leaving the spacer out. As far as the driveshaft, I'd replace the u-joint and just leave the 4 bolt flange off. It will connect right to your new yoke with a set of u-bolts. Good luck!

prefer the big hole (larger intermed shaft), would use the one FROM your jeep. Sell the other to recoup $$$$

Tim that square flange on the back of the E-brake drum will bolt back on the output shaft if you choose to leave off the drum and backing plate. Guys who swap in later back brakes with a parking brake set-up often leave the T-case E-brake off.
You can then bolt your rear driveshaft flange back on to it, just like before. It will change the driveshaft length somewhere around 1.5 inches. The thickness of the drum and backing place. (The drum is dished so its not alot).
If you are going to leave the E-brake off, I would be interested in buying it if you want to get rid of it. ;)

I am not the expert, but I think the deal is you can switch the front output "cover" that has the shifter brackets cast into it back and forth. In other words unbolt the twin stick shifter casting and related pieces and bolt it on you big hole case. Same with the rear output yoke, pull your ebrake stuff off and bolt on the regular yoke. You may have to use the rear output casting that goes with it, seems I read somewhere that there were differences.

I don't think small and big hole cases can be switched, I maybe wrong?
