I am new to site and jeeping. I recently bought a 71 CJ5 and can not get it to start. I have power to the points but not to the plug. I have on order the cap and wires. I want to change the points over to electric while I am at it but not sure what I need to do. I ordered a magnetic pickup from a company and it is not the right part from waht I can tell. Any help would be much appreciated.

I have a 231 EF and converted to HEI about 2 months ago from points. After the HEI conversion it runs better than it ever has before. With help from this site is was pretty easy and very straight forward.

Thanks for the info so far. I think I may have found a solution as in using a distributor out of an 82 buick regal. Has same gear and shaft is same length. That is my goal for the weekend. I will update on how it goes.

Hazmat, you did convert this to an Odd-Fire distributor right?

If not be sure and check, one of the other distributor threads from today has the link to the conversion.

Unless of course you're using an even fire 231 in which case drop it in and go!
