Is There A Way To Check Compression On A Motor Thats Not In The Jeep? Maybe With A Air Compressor? I Just Bought A 1968 Dauntless For $100.00. It Has A Single Barrel Carb And A Oil Bath Air Cleaner. It Came Out Of A Cj6 With The Alt. And Bell Houseing. Happy, Happy!

Has it got a starter, or can you put one on it? An air compressor wouldn't tell you the compression, just the pressure you put on it, but I supposed you could do a leak down test.

It Does Have A Starter. I'm Going To Take Both The Starter And The Alt Off And Get Them Checked First.

I your starter is good, you can check compression with the motor on a stand, or even hanging, if your careful....

Jim J if you want I can ship you my screw-in compression tester I use on my V6s. Just pay fer shipping back & forth and save yerself $25. I used it most recently on a non-Dauntless 1bbl 225V6 out of the Jeep. BTW are you sure yers is a 1bbl Dauntless? I thought all Dauntless' were 2bbl. :? Maybe I've been using Dan's crack pipe? :D

  6. Hippo: I think you're correct. The Buick "auto" engines had some 1 bbls on them. The Jeep :v6: all had 2bbl 2G's I believe.

Don't know about the crack pipe though.

mudweiserjeep, thanks for the help. i looked all over the search but never thought to look here. anyway i have a single barrel carb but the site doesn't have info for it. i looked for the intake # b1378704e. on the site it says that the # is for a 2 barrel. oh well, back to being confused.

Hmm, is there a funny-looking adapter for the 1bbl carb?
Take a look at the rear valley behind & under the intake. What's the casting #?
