Roll Bars

l've got a '67 (that's what the title says, anyway) and would like to put a roll bar in it. Some of the earlier ones look like the have the curved supports to the rear and the later ones are straight. Will they all fit?

 

the one's to look at are the way they mount . roll bar mounted on angle iron rail .
with back up plates to go under the sheet metal on fenders

 

The two main suppliers were Smittybilt and Whitco. Either type will fit, as long as they are made for a CJ-5.

There are lots of other vehicles that were fitted with roll bars, including the later CJ-5. All the CJ-5 bars that will fit sit on top of the wheel house, as mentioned.



This is the Smittybilt deluxe model, and they also made one with straight braces. Whitcos all had straight braces AFAIK. Design of the braces does not matter as long as it fits on the wheel houses and under your top.

 

I ended up having a bar made because I wanted more rear passenger protection that the pic above would not provide. And it still fits under the softtop. The interesting thing is the plate for the underside. I understand the purpose of it, but if you look under there, you cannot put a 1 piece plate from front to back as there are other braces, etc, that get in the way. So I'm not sure exactly how it was accomplished.
