Hello, this question may have been asked and answered before, but pardon me from asking again because I was not able to find the answer in the forums...
My carb (98SD) runs and idles great, but when driving my jeep during rough roads or sharp turns, fuel smells and may be leaking. The carb has been rebuilt and it did this even before the rebuilt..Any ideas what will cause this..
Thank you in advance for replying to this threat..

I assume you mean 938SD. More than likely the float level is set too high. Have you tried to stop and quickly check for a sign of leaking?

Thank you for replying, yes that's what I meant (938SD) thanks for correcting me, Yes I have checked and only evidance I can see is that it appears wet around the base of the carb and intake manifold. No actual sign of leaking. I'll check the float and see what it does.
    Thank you..

Since you said it was rebuilt I didn't think of it but I should have mentioned the needle valve too. Could be sticking or fuel pump pressure might be overcoming it?

The Carter YF carbs are supposed to have a special "rough service" needle valve and seat. Often not included in generic rebuild kits. You must get the right kit from a knowledgable JEEP supplier.

Basically, it is a spring loaded needle, and a reduced diameter valve orifice which reduces the effect of incoming fuel pressure. Float valve level must also be set to right specs for that set up.

Also, a popular fix in days of yore was an in-line fuel pressure regulator, which can be adjusted to 3psi or less. JC Whitney had them for very small money.

Search here - it has been addressed many times.
