New/restored Early Hood Hinges

    So, the hood hinges on my '64 CJ6 were basically shot. The cast sides on the cowl were badly worn and the double-D shaft was also badly worn.

    My brother is a machinist in a tool and die room so I turned them over to him. The original plan I had was for him to ream the castings out and braise in some bronze bushings. After he got them he figured out that by the time he got them machined out round for the bushings there would not be enough cast left to have any strength.

    So, he dug out and old press brake die and machined entirely new cowl side hinge half's. And while he was at it he knocked out the old double-D shafts and made new ones out of high carbon steel drill rod.

    Can't believe how good they came out. My biggest problem is he will not have access to the tooling to make other parts as his job with Modine is being moved to Mexico in 2 weeks.
