    hallo from france !!!

my oem carburator carter was horrible ! even with a compltete rebuilt kit = leak , stalling , etc . he was drinking like an alcoholic !! but when it s running (not often) my max speed on my power were very correct for me .

some guys tell me put a 32pbic on your cj5 !! a little less power but no leak , no problem , etc

    so i ve bought a solex 32 pbic .

my car now is running fine . but i m living in french alps and flat road whe don t know !!! my cj will be wondeful if i can have a little more power with this new carb . i dont want a race car but i would like to run nearly with the carter = my tires a 7.5x16 firestone sat

so , my questions are :

    1) what the specifications for the oem solex 32 on cj5 (diameter for air , gasoline , lenght)

to be sure that what i have on my carb are the right parts !!

    2) with which part can i increase my carb power on my cj ?

    thank you

    have a nice day

What is your altitude? Could be you need to increase your timing a tad.

I am near Châteaudun, and bought my CJ5 in the Alps, above Grenoble.
I have a Solex on it and it works well, except... in winter, doesn't like cold weather.
I have the Hurricane engine, and I give my car to a pro shop (to pass the safety control).
The specialist made a good checking of the Solex, and all goes well.

Except if you are a good pro yourself, it is better to go to a good specialised shop, check before if he is good of course, as we use to do in our villages.
You have to get new spark plugs, the good ones, check all the system to get the maximum power in good condition.

I am in a flat area, I understand that the Hurricane, with the weight of the Jeep, is not very powerful to climb mountains except if you go slowly. It is not pleasnat to have lot of trucks following you and trying to pass ahead on mountain roads...

If you are a good specialist in mechanics yourself, as I see, you have no problems to keep your CJ5 in good condition.

What I have seen with the Solex carb is that, in cold weather, it needs help. There are solutions probably to have it warm but this is what happened to me. In summer, perfect.

Concerning the fuel consumption, I cannot say, I use a lot of fuel! And the pollution control is OK.
