Picked up this little gem last Friday evening. Some of you guys from the bay area California may have seen this jeep before. I purchased it from the original owners son. It was last licensed in 1982 and appears to only have 27,000 mi. All work done to it was preformed by Archer Brothers. Specs are: Even fire 231, SM420, 3.73 gears, Power locks front and rear, flanged axle, Discs on the front 11" drums on the back with ebrake cables and hardware, front and rear tanks, and much more.
The story was that the owners father purchased it new in 71 and was in the process of installing the sm420 and 231 when he developed brain cancer and died. He said that his father had big plans but didn't know what they were. While removing all of the junk from the inside I stumbled across a complete 3.8 turbo kit with what appears to be all the wiring, computer, ect. Under that I found a back seat and brand new upholstery for the front seats.
My buddy was given a 59 a couple months ago, but this rig is so clean, we are going to abandon the 59 and get this on the road. It is a far better starting point than I had on my project.
There is the usual front pillar rust, but that is the only real bad part. We will probably start a build thread at some point.
I'm kind of a pic whore today........

Great starting point. I bet it was almost really nice years ago before the guy passed. Upholstery kit even came with hog ring pliers? This jeep might be perfect with all the parts and potential.

That's exactly why I picked it up. If you were to source the axles with power locks alone you would spend at least $1000. All of the components are there to make a very capable jeep. The black things on the sides are air vents.
I told my buddy to add $1,000 to it and just start driving it.

That turbo is from a late'70s Regal/Monte Carlo. It takes a real unique 4 bbl Rochester-totally different porting to deal w/ positive pressure.
Nice find with all the upgrades!

I got the complete kit as far as I can tell. Carb, Piping, Turbo, Intake, Air box, Computer, Wiring.. ect.
I'm sure that I'm probably missing a few odds and ends.

The rust is not even half as bad as what I started with on my build.
Yes. He paid 1k for it. When we added up all the parts that he was going to need to acquire for his free 59 project, we figured he was at least another 1k ahead parts wise.
When you add up the cost of the flanged 44 with power lock, 11" brakes with e brake hardware.
Front 27 with power lock and disc brakes
Sm420 with aa adapter ready to run.

He stumbled into a well built even fire 231 last weekend that is ready to run as well.

    Tarry,
It's almost a time capsule. The motor that came with it is just going to be a rainy day project. He sang a guy out of a running built even fire 231 last weekend that will be going in to replace the eve fire 231 that's currently in the jeep. On the plus side, the motor that came in it turns over by hand nicely.

    I think it's a great score.

Seems like an oddity being a '71 with an under the seat tank and a rear flanged axle?

The under seat tank must have been added, all 71s were built with rear tanks.

Yeah...Looking at close ups on my computer it does look added.

Something doesn't seem right with the dash...The steering wheel cut out isn't stock...Right?

Do I spy swinging pedals too?
