Sorry for dredging up a topic that I'm sure has been beaten fairly well to death, but the search tool isn't digging up the data I need.

Percival needs new tires, and I lucked into some original 16X5 Willys truck wheels to replace the stock 15s that are on him now. He's bone stock, no lift, etc.

I know that 215/85/16 is the modern "match" for the original size tires, but I can't find anything with much of an agressive tread pattern in this size. My Jeep is used for running errands and mainly hunting and fishing excursions with no serious offroad action. I do however, have to run on the highway for at least an hour until I get to where I can pull out my thunderstick or fishing pole, so I need something that has decent road manners.

Today at NTB I saw some Goodyear radials that look aggressive, but they are only available in 235/85/16, a little taller and wider than stock - advertised height is 31.8" Is this too tall? I know I will have to adjust the stops to reduce/stop the rub (hell, he does that now with G78-15s) on close turns, but are these going to be too tall?

Does anyone out there have good/bad expereince with these tires, or is there another brand etc. I should be looking at?

    Thanks in advance!

The 235/85R16 is the size MOP has on his CJ-5 IIRC.

He bought the TRXuS STS (Mud Tire) version.

Fits nicely (he does have a 2" lift though).

I did have 32" tires on my CJ-5 with no lift.

    I did find a 215/85R16 though http://www.kelly-springfield.com/auto/products/smsrb.html

It's a "commercial product" don't know what that means. But looks like a decent tire.

Thanks Sparky. Any problems with the 32s on your rig?

Does BF Goodrich make there All-Terrain KO tier to fit? This is a pretty popular tire for the reasons stated above. Good traction and rides well on the road. It also can be pretty inexpensive.

I'm also looking at my little chart and its saying that a 235/70-16 stands 29.2" tall, or a 265/75-16 stands 30.5 tall.

    Hope this helps
