1980 CJ5 Fuel sending unit?

I have been looking for a fuel sending unit for my 1980 CJ5 and cant find one anywhere. I was wondering if someone new were I could get one or an upgrade that I can do to fix the problem. Thanks

 

the last known Jeep p/n is 5357373; 1977-1980 should be the same #
be aware that it uses a 4-3/8" long sock filter on the bottom of the tube
leaving it off/out means run out of gas sooner! (ie, walkin time)
p/n for sock filter is either 3230376 or 5361389 (book is screwed up on this)
maybe you can run these numbers by some folks

 

is the contact resistor board bad
check for bad float also
float can be purchased at FOMOCO

4 wld hardware has that part # listed above 5357373 for a 15 gal tank $29.95. BOB

 

Thanks for the info. I dont know what is bad I just know that it wasnt working when I bought the Jeep. I really appreciate the info. it will a big help. Im tired of running out of gas and my wife is too. Thanks again!
