newbie? 76 D20 T-case Stuck ....

    .... in low. Longest drive home you could imagine. Anyone have suggestions on getting this beast back into 2-wheel?

    I am assuming you unlocked the front hubs? Did you try putting the tranny in neutral to help unload the gears?

    Jack up the rear axle so the tires are off the ground. Then try to shift it out. Also get under the jeep and check the shift linkage. Something may be bound-up there.

    "Rock" the Jeep back and forth, while maintaining pressure on the xfer case stick. My D20 requires that I back up about 6 inches...

    I have found doing a slow zig zag turn while pulling on the transfer shifter will get it to shift out of 4 wheel drive.

    Drive an old jeep long enough, you will get good at this. Do the zig-zag, shift trans into neutral, find a flat spot of ground to coast to, and the hubs click into unlock easily.
    But as pointed out, it could be a shifter lubrication issue.

    What is the proper(factory recommended) procedure for shifting the transfer case on D20's?
