I am a little concerned that the radiator that came with the jeep when I purchased it might not be able to cool the engine. It did not run when I decided to do a complete restoration. Now I am to the point of installing the radiator but before I do I want to make sure it will be fine for the freshly rebuilt 225 V6. What I took out of it is a 2 row radiator. I had all the leaks fixed and rodded out by a radiator shop. I am running the original 4 blade fan and no shroud. What in your opinion with the experiences you have had would you do? I know a new 3 row radiator would be just shy of $600.

Dunno if the one in your '71 is any different than the one in my '70, assuming yours is still the stock radiator, but I've got *zero* cooling issues with mine, even when I was back in Nevada in 100 degree heat crawling around. Never broke about 200 on the gauge.

Mine's a stock 225, 2 row stock radiatior and 4 blade fan. It's always run on the warm side but a homemade fan shroud helped a lot.

I took this picture last summer, 100+ day, after exiting the expressway. My radiator is the stock type, no shroud, stock 4 blade fan. No overheating problems ever. Actually in the winter I have to cover part ofthe radiator with cardboard to get it to a decent operating temp.

Me too...but mine still runs over 200 on a warm day, especially off road.

I had my OEM radiator rodded and a leak repaired and its been good in the 2 years since without a shroud. On the hottest of days (100F+), it will creep up to 200-205 when pulling hard up the freeway in the mountains or if its crawling around offroad, but only when its really hot out. I think a shroud would help - especially the when crawling around. At freeway speed, I think the mechanical fan actually hinders some of the flow over the radiator and not sure if the shroud would help - but wouldn't hurt either.
