Took my Jeep down the road today with tags on it for the first time. Since my wife has had to put up with my working on it and being a jeep widow for a while, I made sure she was on the maiden voyage. It runs great. I need to adjust the emergency brake, and a few other tweaks, but it is good!! Now I need to get it in the hills and see what it will do. The carb seems to work very well, but the highway and off-road are two different things.

That is awesome! Too bad you didn't get to drive it with the Solex on it so you could have a comparison, but I'll just bet the Weber does a good job. :)

Safe Travels! That first drive is always so exciting. Of course, in an old Jeep, they are always exciting.

Thanks for the cheers, guys. I appreciate it. We have all been there, and yes, Garageguy, the smile is still on my face. I stopped at an auto parts place to get a pan to change the oil, and had two guys ask me on the spot if I was interested in selling it. I politely told them that they didn't have enough money. But you know what is strange? We live near a high school and when the kids are walking by, the girls stop and look at it and point as they talk about it. The guys never do. Any ideas? I know my daughter wanted a Suzuki Samurai when she was growing up, but due to the rollover rate on those things, I told her no.

I blame "the wussification of the American male".

The ladies still know where it's at. (y)

Good travel and bon voyage, take care in the curbs, I was driving a little bit fast on my first trip.
About young people, I see interest in the eyes of boys and girls, they say hello nicely.
The only problem is, if you have a military look, with some people coming from countries where French army Jeeps had a role long ago, but this concerns very few people now.

I get more thumbs up from women when I am out in the 3B and all of the guys in newer jeeps try to avoid eye contact.
On a trail, others stop me and ignore the later Jeeps.

The Solex didn't work well at all. It was a mess and had no consistency to its performance. It would be good one day and the next day, it would hardly keep the engine running. Once I put the Weber on, I have had no issues. I thought the backfiring issue was possibly a carb problem but that turned out to be a retarded timing issue due my setting the timing incorrectly because what I thought was the timing mark on the pulley was not, and the stationary pointer was bent. Works fine now.

Well, I guess the difference is even better than expected! :) Of course I meant with a properly working Solex for a good comparison. ;)
