So the my '67 has the factory 60/40 bench seat. My Dad had it re-upholstered, but they retained the original springs. The seat bottom is really tall, and I sit very high in the Jeep; too high. It also has the factory brackets and adjuster/ sliders. Anyone else with the split bench have this issue? I'd really like to get it lower somehow, but there's really no room above the gas tank to lower it much, and I'd really don't want to alter the factory brackets. Could anyone post some pics of their seats so I can get an idea if mine is normal? Thanks.

This doesn't have an adjuster but the backs do fold. I only mention that because I don't know what year range these are from. I bought them from our member who went by the username hippo (Alan) way back when. I definitely do not sit too high in these.

Awesome, thanks Glenn. Those frames are slightly different than mine. Mine has two separate brackets on the back, and one on the front, that bolt on the driver portion.

I'm still about an inch higher on the front edge than yours, but I think it'll work. I just don't know why they were so damn high.

It is strange that over the years the height would change knowing that headroom and visibility out of the windshield could easily be an issue. Changing the frame design doesn't make any sense to me.

It doesn't look to me like yours would facilitate adjusting sliders.....Maybe they changed the frame for that reason...?

My Tuxedo Park has a split bench like the one in the picture. The holes in the body are for adjusting it I think. I am short, 5' 8" and I still have it back as far as it will go, it touches the wheel well, and could use a little more room. There is no room for a drink between me and the steering wheel.

    Derailing...

Glenn, what are the red clamp looking things for and what's the pipe thing protruding from the parking brake area?

    Thanks.

Pretty sure that's his E-brake handle Focker =P

Now the red things, no idea. I'd probably keep 12 gauge shells in it =P

;) You got it on both counts. I came up with the spring clips idea when I was a teen in '67, had them in my first Jeep. Very convenient for a couple of different size shot. E-brake handle I did years ago when the T-handle assembly got messed up. It is a bit inconvenient because it sticks out so far.

You said the seat was reupholstered with the original springs. Did they add any foam padding over the springs? There should be only burlap over the springs, with about 3/8" padding in the pleats. Too many seat have thick foam added.
I like my 40/60 bench seat setup and it doesn't sit me too high. I'm 6' tall.

I had mine re-upholstered when I picked up the 66 CJ-6. The brackets on mine appear to be just like Glenn's. I deleted the springs and went with high density foam only on the front seat. I almost feel a little low sometimes but with the factory small glass windshield, the height is just about right. I'm 5'9"

I wish I had told my guy to add a bit of foam to mine to get a little more height.....I'm 5'8 and like you say it feels like I'm sitting too low.

the front edge of the seat should be 7 1/4 inches from the lowest point of the steering wheel. The seat back should be 12 3/4 inches from the same point on the steering wheel.
