Can anyone tell me how far the axle shaft sticks out past the end of the wheel bearing hub?

    --or--

How far past the spindle mounting face of the knuckle..the shaft sticks out?

    --or--

How much of the shaft is supposed to stick inside the locking hub?

Any of these will suffice. Working at the tire carrier I've been fiddling with for some time. Mounting a spindle, hub and bearings, and locking hub to a steel plate that will then be bolted to the tire carrier frame. I will then have a spare hub, spindle, bearings, etc. in a tidy package.

I think I need to cut an outer axle shaft down and weld it to the steel plate so that I can then lock the locking hub and prevent the tire from spinning freely. Unless someone who has done this can show me another way to accomplish the goal.

That's exactly how my Dad built the carrier on the Tux....That being said, I dont know the exact measurement you're looking for...Just pull one of the hubs off the front and take a look/ measure..

Build the carrier so the tire has a "rest" to ride against so it cannot turn?

Thought about that, Nick. Thinking of a rubber snubber type thingy, hidden behind the tire. It could even be adjustable for different tire sizes in the future.

One of the small aftermarket bullet type bumpstops that has the threaded shaft would work well for this.

If you make the whole spindle hub assembly with bearings, to keep it from spinning couldn't you just adjust the bearing preload wheel bearings tight enough that it won't spin, but not too tight.

That would mean less holes to drill and less to modify on your jeep

Hmmm. I don't know. That's an option I hadn't considered. I think I like it. Not 1 ounce of extra weight.
