Have any of you run an overdrive with an automatic transmission? More specifically, a Warn style on the D18?
The Tux has a TH350, and 4.88 gears, 33" tires. It does OK, but an overdrive would be handy. I'm sure the transmission would have to be put in neutral for the OD to shift, but I'm not sure if the output shaft would slow down enough, quickly enough, for the OD to shift smoothly...Thoughts?

How about reverse thinking on this. Put it in OD before you get on the highway and then you wouldn't need to worry about the shifting dilemma. Personally I'm skeptical of it working without shortening the synchro life. It doesn't seem like it would have any trouble taking off from a stop in OD. What is the 1st gear ratio of the 350? How does it compare with T14?

The two guys I know with autos in their Jeeps either shift prior to driving on the highway, or simply let off the gas and shift the overdrive.
Not saying either way is right or wrong...it's how they do it.

Oh it would certainly start out just fine in OD, but I would like to be able to shift.

Have they been using this setup for any amount of time? I'm guessing they have....And no issues with the OD synchros

Since an auto would be more forgiving I'd bet shifting into OD would be the lesser of 2 evils, shifting out might get interesting though, or maybe not?

Overdrive instructions say. Transmission should be shifted into neutral then shift.
