I'm doin some work on my glass tub before install and I was wondering what would be the best plug to use to cover holes in the floors for water removal? I'de like to get a handle on a plug type before drilling any holes. I'm not interested in the bulky plug used on boat applications so there must be something out there to fit this purpose. What's your opinion???

I haven't drilled into mine yet either. Would be interested in finding out what works well.

I think Lynn posted a website that had a viable solution to this. Maybe 3 weeks ago? I'll look for you.

Edit: No luck finding it. Maybe Lynn will chime in...

I put empty shotgun shells in the holes. I sanded a recess for the lip so they sit flush.

I drilled out the primer hole so they'd flow water thru the primer hole. If I needed to drain alot of water with chunks, I'd have been able to pop the shell out.

Then, while I wasn't looking, my dad rolled herculiner over them. They aren't coming out now!

It was too pretty for a Jeep anyways...

You should be able to find some black plastic hole plugs at your local hardware. I think even Lowes has them. They come in standard sizes such as 3/4 , inch etc.

One tip that I did on a glass tub I built a few years back is I added a nice coating of epoxy to the inside of the the drain holes. It is likely the drain holes may penetrate some of the inner filler material. By sealing them, water can't wick it's way into the fiberglass causing rot inside or delamination.

Also a lesson I learned from wokring on boats is to slightly chamfer or deburr any holes you drill in the glass with a countersink bit. This will prevent spider cracking in the future.
