Ok so Now I'm ready to start thinking about power plant for my 67 CJ5. It had a 225 in it that was shot so I want to go a little more modern so off came the motor mounts and now I have a blank canvas. I've got sbc motor mounts so its either a V8 or a 4.3 V6. The v6 intrigues me because of the size and since I'm thinking of a fiberglass body the thing will be fairly lightweight, it would have plenty of power. That said, when looking for a 4.3, what year motors should I bee looking for considering I would be running a 4 barrel intake and carb, HEI, maybe a cam and headers. I want to stay away from anything computer related and I like a clean organized engine bay so nothing but motor under the hood. Thank you.....Bob

JMO - you are missing a golden opportunity to use a plug-and-play EFI motor, whether it be Chevrolet V6 or V8. The advantages of EFI in a Jeep are significant - in addition to the better mileage, starting, performance, drivability and reliability, you eliminate the effects of gravity on fuel delivery. The engine will run upside down if needed (though the oil won't stay in place) - but it will run. And bumps and jolts won't affect the even delivery of power. It's a significant advantage.

Again, I want nothing to do with computers or plug and play. Just looking for a V6 version of the classic reliable carbed SBC. The simpler the better.
