My temp gauge went to the HOT peg and stayed there. I traced the wire from the sending unit to the gauge and couldn't find a break or a short. I took the instrument cluster out and checked the connections. I made sure they were all tight, then reinstalled the cluster back in the dash. I turned on the key and immediately I heard a small "pop" saw a little spark and a little puff of smoke under the glass. Both gauges now peg the high end. I think I have to replace my gauges. Can anyone tell me what size fuse I should put in front of the gauges to protect them?

    Thanks.

Would take a special instrument to measure that small of current draw. I would not even take a guess at it. Most likely you didn't have a good ground on the instrument cluster and dash panel. Sorry it happened.
