I bought a new windshield frame and was having problems installing my hardtop so, like an idiot, I cut off the soft top channel which was tack welded to the top front section above the glass on my windshield frame. Is buying yet another windshield frame my only option for replacing this channel or is there a manufacturer out there that sells a channel for a 72-75 style which can be rivoted or screwed on in place of the original? I am aware that the 76 and up is mounted to the top of the frame and this is not what I am looking for.

    Thank you,

    Mark

That is a problem... Maybe someone out there has a rusty windshield frame you could cut/grind to get the channel. You could then weld it back on your frame. Have to be very careful of the glass, of course.

If you can find a channel to use, I would suggest either brazing it with a fine-tip oxy-acetylene torch or tack-welding it with a MIG welder and low heat. Make sure you have it clamped down well along the whole length and jump around while welding so that you don't get it too hot in any one spot. Shouldn't be necessary to have a bead run the entire length of the channel, IMHO.

    Good luck! ;)
