What would the number one cause of a clutch sticking ?
I do have a rear main seal that leaks some. Clutch never slips that I can tell but
it has stuck a couple of times. Could it be the linkage is out of adjustment?
I have around 1-1/2" free travel in the pedal..

Mine did it from sitting. Disc won't release from flywheel.

yup probrobly rusty shaft unless its sticking right to the flywheel but it wouldnt do that more than once unless you keep it in a really damp area. you might be able to drip some oil down onto it from the access cover on top of the bellhousing but im not sure

Happens once in a while to mine, after sitting all winter. Just have to abuse it until it lets loose.

Humidity! The organic material that the clutch lining is made from absorbes moisture from the air in humid areas, like where I live in the deep south. This little bit of dampness rusts the lining to either the flywheel or pressure plate, or both. This locks the clutch together so you cannot disengage it.
My solution is to start the engine in neutral and let it warm up a couple minutes, then shut it down. Then, with the vehicle aimed in a direction I can drive, I put the trans in second or third gear, and depress the clutch to the floor. I turn the key and the engine starts,,essentially in gear , with the vehicle instantly in motion. I then stab the throttle and back off, jerking the vehicle, all the while with the clutch to the floor. Usually after one or two throttle jabs, the clutch disc breaks free and all is back to normal.
    Hope this helps!

Its simple to un-stick it, but the reason it sticks is what I would like to know.

Thanks guys. Its located in a high humidity area and don't get driven often enough .
We have had 40 inches of rain this year already, with temp. in the 90's most days with humidity
in the 80-90 percent most days.
Sounds like that might be the culprit..

Do you know how many miles are on the clutch? How long has it been since it has been replaced? As mentioned the input shaft might be rusty, or dirty/gummy where the disc doesn't move on it very well?

Don,t have a clue as to the age. I've had it around 4 years but don't know if it was ever replaced
    or not.

DO NOT INTENTIONALLY PUT OIL ON THE CLUTCH! The least it will cause is grab and chatter, and worst case scenario it will cause slipping. The friction material is like a sponge and will absorb any oil it comes in contact with. It will then release it as the friction material heats up. NOT GOOD!

Rust is the normal cause of the disc sticking to either the flywheel, pressure plate, or both.

Yes not on the Disc I mean on the shaft if possible. Sorry I thought that was fairly obvious. Just a few drops for a light coating so it doesnt sling everywhere. But its probrobly not possible without making a mess

Only had it happen once, I drove into a big tree with the clutch down in second gear. Didn't hurt the tree but it got the clutch free.
