In my attempt to seal up the Jeep for a long trip, I am tracking down oil leaks.

The motor was rebuilt in 2003, but hasn't had more than 1000 miles on it since. (It's a long sad story that involves a garage)

Anyway, I know the rear seal is gone so I am going to get the TA Performance rubber seal and put that in soon.

However, I notice some decent leaking from where the oil pump bolts to the timing cover. Is that common? Or possible? I don't know much about that part of the motor, so can I just take the pump off, replace the gasket and go? Or could it be the front seal that is causing me issues?

I have decent oil pressure all the time and run about 18-20 at idle and 20-35 driving around 2k RPMs, so I don't think I need to rebuild the pump.

    Any insight would be great.

    Thank you in advance.

If its just the gasket, remove the pump and put a new gasket on with some permatex. I would degrease the front of the engine and drive it to narrow down where it is leaking from. To my knowledge the only place the oil pump will leak from is the gasket
