Sounds like you have already made up your mind. ;) Do whetever you want to. You are the one who has to live with it and if you want a V-8 then do it. Otherwise you will be forever saying... "I could have had a V-8."

The AMC 360 and the Chrysler 360 are entirely different, sharing only the 360ci displacement.

You need an AMC V8 if you are going to replace an AMC inline 6. The engine from the CJ7 is almost certainly an AMC 360, not a Chrysler 360.

I believe you need the correct flywheel for a 360. They are available new.

You will also need to change one of the motor mounts, if I am correct...

I've got a '73 CJ5 with a V8 and really like the power. If the $ is there go with the V8.

    My .02.

    Good luck...Casey

Just a thought, but puttin in a stock V8 may be cheaper and net you the same HP/Torgue as building up an I6.... .02

I've been offered the 360 AMC V8 with alternator/starter/brackets etc. for £400. There don't seem to be too many around in the UK for that kind of £. Most are nearer th £800 to £1k mark.

I actually think i might save the additional £ in my mechanics time. I reckon I might get £150 for re-selling the IE6, and as he can work on the V8 on the stand vs working on the IE6 in the engine bay, plus it'll make cleaning and painting the bay much quicker not having to work around an engine in place.

So in short, I think I'll come out about £ even with a V8 compared to refurbing the existing IE6. Plus I'll gain muchos grunt...

I've had 3 jeeps with the AMC 304...2 '73s and a '76...in an intermediate I like the 304...all the power I need and overall a good engine...plus it was an option then...Now I have a '66 with an oddfire....I like it just as well as the 304 for this jeep...I think I like to have the most stock bang for the year of the jeep...keeps it simple and more valuable to me
