Hey there, Im in need of new gas gauge... will the replacement one part 1955-86 #3222 work with my 1967 cj 5 in gas tank sender unit? Thanks

2nd question... I had a old 2nd old fuel gauge that worked , but when I tried to BENCH TEST with my gas tank sender unit out of tank, it burnt up!!!? The sender unit was grounded well! The fuel gauge was grounded to the jumper bar that goes over to temp gauge. Sender wire was on right terminal of gauge and hot power tied on the other terminal.
What happened, why did gauge go up in a cloud of smoke??? This not right wiring schematic.... I would like to figure this out before i smoke a $30 brand new # 3222 fuel gauge!
    Thanks Jesse

Hey Howard thanks for gettin bac. Tonka starting to come together... looks good! Well I wouldnt be tying ground on to V reg power terminal again thanks :) Would you know if the new gauge 1955-86 will work with my sender? I thought the later jeeps had senders that had different e/f ohm values... and would they not pertain to a specific gauge???
    Thanks

The generic replacement guage should work fine- the sender resistance values didn't change at all for 5's/6's & probably 7s from start to finish. The only differnce would be the very early King-Seely '55-'56 guages "swing" the opposite way to the Stewart Warner versions but "E" still = empty & "F" still = full.

Try a search on "fuel gauge" (including the quotes)
