Doing a disc brake conversion and wonder what master cylinder would work well for me. I have 11inch rear drums and larger jeep disc brakes in the front.(I think they are 1 1/8" rotors)
I need to find a manual master cylinder that will bolt up the same as my 71 jeep. I got my discs off an 84 j-10, wondering if I should just ask for that one to start? and see if itll bolt up. Im using the original master right now and it works ok but I need to double pump for a good feel. Any help would be great......thanks

I've got front discs ('78 dana 30) and original 10" rear drums. I've had good luck with the original style master cylinder. I got a new mc a few years ago from NAPA. No need to double pump.

If you're needing to double pump I guess the volume of your calipers is larger. And, the rear brake cyliners may be larger with the 11" drums - I think mine have the 1" bore but not sure.

I take it your mc is down under and your pedals go through the floor?

Anyway, I don't have a suggestion for alternate mc - just something newer designed for disc/drum setup with more volume. Just thinking out loud.

Check out Wilwood. I have a universal type single 1" cylinder w remote reservoir that bolted up with minor drilling (side & end mounting provisions). They also have a tandem remote. http://www.wilwood.com/

Look for a MC from a '78-'86 CJ with disc brakes up front. it will bolt up perfectly to the factory '71 bracket. You may need to fab a new pushrod, but other than that it is a bolt-on. ;)

I bought a replacement MC for my 71 at NAPA. When I went to disks in the front I attemped to remove the internal residual valves and found that it had none. So I plumbed in Wilwood RV's front and rear and all is fine now. BTW I'm still running the 10" rears.
