This is my 69 CJ5. It has Rugged Trail springs that were put on many years ago by the PO. It currently has 31X10.5 tires and I would like to replace them with a larger tire with more agressive tread. The question is whether I can fit 33X10.5" without fender trimming. I've read all the relevant threads I could find, but decided it is best just to show my jeep and see what you think.

The wheels are 15X8" with 3.75" backspacing. I currently have 1.5" wheel spacers on it. I don't know how much lift I have. The distance between the top of the rear axle tube and the stock bump stop is 7" and the distance between the top of the front axle tube and the stock bump stop is 5.25". I am headed to Moab in May where I will be flexing the suspension plenty. I really like the look of the 33X10.5, but don't want to come back from Moab with body damage from rubbing. Thanks for your thoughts!

They should. Just extend your bump stops so they won't contact the body. You'll loose some articulation but won't cut a tire or damage any sheet metal.

Any idea how much I should extend the bump stops? Is it just a trial and error process? I also don't want to diminish the articulation any more than necessary.

I would imagine you will have to flex it with the larger tires and see if anything rubs then lengthen the stops accordingly. In your pictures it looks like the paint inside your rear wheel wells has been rubbed pretty hard at one time. Was that with your current setup? If so then I'm guessing they will rub much worse with 33's. It does look like 33's would fit with the amount of height you have but tire width and backspacing can make a huge difference. Just check everything closely before you go out and hit the trails... I would hate to see you damage that nice little jeep. -MF

The rub marks in the rear wheel well are from the PO. I haven't had rubbing issues with the 31' tires. But, the 1.5" wheel spacers may be helping to keep the tires away from the inside of the wheel well.

Here are the 33X10.5's installed. I will need to do some suspension flexing to see if/where they want to rub

I have the Black Diamond 3" lift on my A1. It has 15x8 3.75" bs wheels with no spacers. The 33 10.50 15's fit just fine with zero rub on or off road.
