Nice work - following your progress closely as I'd like to tackle these upgrades relatively soon.

A lot of progress today. Everything went together fine, I just need finish running the brake lines & bleed them and get the tie rods hooked up. Here a few pics.

One note: the original brackets that hold the brake hoses to the frame work fine with the new brake hoses, but had to be opened up from about .690" to .710". I think the new hoses are metric based. Also the outside brake pads have little nubs that stick out and came very close to my wheels, I ground the nubs down by about .060".

This shows where the nub on the pad is very close to the wheel.

Thin Mints anyone? (Just kidding -old brakes headed out to the shed)

    It does look good.

Let's keep sight of the rules on buy-offers and sales to the classifieds and PMs.

And packaging in those boxes, is like a bait and switch when brown Santa arrives...oooo, cookies, ugh, car parts, ooooo, car parts...

This evening I removed the old residual valve from the dual master cylinder's front section. This is needed before I can install the 2 lb in-line residual pressure valve that came from R&P. As the picture shows, the master cylinder is not quite like stock, it is a reman.

In the FSM page you can see where I highlighted the 17 residual pressure check valve spring, 18 check valve, and 19 tube seat. The type of tube seat in the FSM would have been pressed in (according to the FSM) to remove it would have required prying the old tube seat out. My MC had a tube seat that was screwed in with a hex wrench and I assume this is what the re-manufacturer's came up with for making the assembly easier. It is a Wagner MC with the bolt on cover, just as shown in the FSM picture

This weekend I'll pickup another short piece of brake line so I can install the residual as close as possible to the MC (per john at R&P's recommendation).

Latest update: Got it all together and the lines bled last night (after Oregon beat my Okie state in the tournament). Gave it a test drive around the neighborhood this morning.

The new brakes work great, but the back brakes lock a bit too quick, so I have a Jegs #63022 proportioning valve on order. http://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS+Performance+Products/555/63022/10002/-1
I'll put it in place of the factory proportioning valve and try to tweak the action a bit.

Also: the kit from R&P came with semi-metallic pads. I can pick a set of organics at oreillys for 17.99 so that is in the plans too. From what I have heard on here, ( I can't remember who-but thanks whoever it was) organics work better with manual brakes, so for $18 its worth a try to get as much stopping power as possible.

Always had better luck with organic for manual brakes on these light rigs.

Yes but I already threw the box away, the oreillys number is d154, but I am not sure what was in the R&p box. Actually I will probably give r&p a call Tuesday and just eliminate the guess work. Might as well cut to the chase.

    Thanks for the help Nick

I know this is too late for you but maybe it'll help others.

I saved my "S" line for this very reason.

What was the final verdict with the pads? What's your final assessment with the conversion, performance?

I love this brake setup. They are very reliable and solid. I don't have to have a death grip on the wheel even under hard braking.

The pads R&P included in the kit were organic, it was my misunderstanding thinking they were semi metallic

a while back the site had some issues where we went to a NET domain from the COM domain, and then back... some links got whacked. I know some of my threads, with another snafu from certain pix hosting sites got smacked in other ways...

BUT, a little google foo bring's up the referenced missing links from 47v6 with "no problems":

    http://www.earlycj5.com/xf_cj5/index.php?threads/94862/

Stand by while I search for the second one...

    The second one...
    http://www.earlycj5.com/xf_cj5/index.php?threads/111568/

to get to these I went to google, put in the search box something like this:
earlycj5.com best narrow track dana 30 iteration
