If I get the windshield frame acid dipped (to get the rust out of it) and powder coated will the powder coat cover the complete inside? If not I was thinking of galvanizing it then powder coating it. Can you powder coat over galvanized steel?

Don't know about the galvanized part, but the powder coating will not cover the inside unless they can spray it up in there. They may have special applicators to achieve that. Think of powder coating like spray paint that you have to bake when you are done.

something else to consider when powdercoating large pieces fabed from sheetmetal, the heating process that bakes on the paint can somethimes cause warping of thin pieces. :coffee:

What is the best way to stop rust? I have a stock rust free (little surface rust) windsheld frame and I want to keep it that way. It has a few extra holes in it that I need to weld shut but if I can spend 2 or 3 hundred on this one and it last forever I will not have to spend 100 (plus paint) on a cheap one down the road.

Galvanizing they dip the steel in 959 degree zinc. I don't know how long it is left in there but warping may be an issue. Most if not all the current cars made have galvanized panels so it can't warp to much.

Any ideas on how to stop the rust (inside too)?

Have it zinc dipped, then powder coated. It will last a long time if you can garage it when not in use.

The zinc on modern cars is not dipped but electro galvanized, look at galvanaized nails some are dipped (rough surface finish) some are electro galvanized (smooth finish). Besides they couldn't galvanize them fast enough to be cost effective if they were dipped,
