I searched the forum but I could use some help regarding specifics of my problem. I recently bought a '69 CJ5 with Dauntless V6, 200 miles from home. It's a little rough but motor ran real strong. On the way home, under a load when running highway speed / RPM's, especially pulling a grade, engine oil is leaking and hitting the exhaust and burning off and smoking (looked like Cheech and Chong were driving the thing going up hills). I can't tell where it is leaking from (but I get some oil collecting beneath the distributor as well) but it is quite a lot. I figured it was a pressure issue so I went to the PCV. Thought it didn't have one because it was not connected to a valve cover like I expected. This Jeep has a breather hose going from rear of PS valve cover (aftermarket Holley valve covers with oil filler cap on DS side and said breather on the other side) to the air cleaner. This hose was kinked almost entirely. I found the PCV valve (freely rattling) in the rear of the intake manifold with a hose going to a vacuum port in the front of the Rochester Dual Jet carb. My question is should the PCV be in a valve cover or is it ok in the intake mani? I have pics of this Jeep from a rebuild in 1990 showing this routing so it's been this way for 25 years. Would the kink in the breather cause pressure related oil loss from the seals? I changed the PCV just cuz.....and I have not had the opportunity to get her out hot and fast, climbing hills trying to replicate the problem but I thought I might get some thoughts and wisdom from the board here. Seller lived in the country and rarely if ever wound it out at highway speed and claimed to have not experienced this issue. So here's the curveball that I have to throw out there and see if someone can hit it. All this oil leaking and smoking started soon after the following strange event. While I'm driving the new Jeep, my wife following behind in the family car is frantically trying to get my attention. We pull over and she says something fell "off" the Jeep and shattered her windshield. I assumed I kicked something up off the highway. She claims it looks like if came out of the underside of the Jeep and it was metal. I looked underneath and found nothing obvious so we pressed on. A little ways down the road the oil leak starts. After a few stops to look at oil leak and check level, my 11 year old kid tells me to look at the windshield crack. It's the shape of a perfect circle, about 2" across and it looks like there is oil in the crack, like impregnated in the glass. Now I'm believing her about this coming from under the Jeep but I can't for the life of me find anything missing or an exact source of the leak. The front of the motor is dry. Oil filter, oil pressure sending unit, etc are dry. The oil seems to come from the rear of the engine, just can't see where. So, any ideas? All are welcome and appreciated.

Dualjet carb and pcv valve in back of intake manifold indicate late '78 to early '81 non computer controlled 231 V-6, not the earlier Dauntless 225 that would come stock as an option in late '65 to '71 CJ's.

What fell off the jeep?= could have been tailpipe extender.

Tail pipe extender is still there. nickmil this is very interesting info you're giving me. The Jeep was advertised as having a Buick V6 and I just assumed it would be the OEM motor. My dad had a '70 CJ5 years ago with a 225ci so it never occurred to me it might be anything else. Is this 231 V6 Even Fired then? It has a Delco HEI distributor. So, it sounds like this breather / PCV routing is correct. I thought I was on track to figuring out the issue but I am back to square one. Thanks for the sharp observation skills guys.
