Hello everyone. I've been lurking here for a while and now I'm ready to introduce myself. I am restoring/modifying a CJ3B and picked up a Dauntless v6 yesterday with a transmission and transfer case.
    I have a few questions:
    * The tranny has a number (T-86 AA-1B). I guessed this is a T86 trans. Would the other numbers mean anything to me?
    * The tansfer case has a single-stick and a PTO cover. Is this a Dana 20 or?

    Thanks for any info!

    Welcome aboard. :)

If the tcase rear output is centered with the centerline of the engine/tranny it would be a D20 and will normally feed a centered-diff rear.

If the rear output is inline with the front output, then its a D18 and it will normall feed an offset rear diff

What are your plans for thjis rig? Maybe a stronger tranny is in your future ;)

Uh, yeah. Stronger tranny is in order. I plan on using this Jeep for trail use. But I wanna be able to drive it to and (hopefullly) from the trails. Any suggestions on a simple 4 speed swap? One where I can use a D18 from the old 3B???

    Thanks!

There's a whole bunch of options for a stronger tranny. I've got an np435 with a novak adaptor. Novak and AA make adaptor kits for pretty much all the popular options, it sort of depends on what you find for a donor vehicle or if you find somebody selling or swapping something...

    good luck on the build...

Which is stronger - the Dana 20 or the D18? I know I can twin-stick the 20. Also, can I use the PTO from the 18 on the 20? Thanks!
