Understanding early CJ5 E-brakes

I have a CJ2A with a D41 rear with D44 style Warn flanged rear axles. On these are mounted 11" backing plates and brakes from an early 70's CJ5. The backing plates look like they are designed to accommodate an e-brake. I need to find out how the early CJ5 e-brakes worked and determine what parts and mods I would need to make to install rear e-brakes, if possible at all.

    Thanks,

    Mike

    jpflat2a what's that noise?

Are you talking to the rear wheels?
If the holes are in the rear backing plates for a cable, then you need the cable(s) to install.
Inside the brakes, you'll need the equalizer bar and the lever arm.
Beyond that, you'll be customizing some components to get the cable to the 2A lever handle.

Duffer and jpflat2A -- Thanks. I am referring to the rear backing plates. I need to do some looking and thinking I guess. I guess that the CJ5 used a brake cane between the seats? Novere really paid attention to that on the CJ5s I have seen.ridden in...

No. Cj5 had a cane under the dash, left of the column. M38A1 had a lift-up handbrake between the seats, which I like a lot and maybe you can adapt.

CJ's didn't go to rear wheel emergency brakes un til 72, which used a foot pedal for actuation.

The original parking brake is a drum on the rear output of the transfer case.

Glenn - got that and have already totally rebuilt that system. I am exploring the practicality of implementing e-brakes on the backing plates I have from an early 70s CJ5. These brakes are already on my '47 CJ2A chassis. Thanks for your comment.

You are welcome. :) Just to clarify however for this forum an early CJ-5 is thru '71, so all of the CJ's thru '71 had the t-case brake. ;) Early 70's would be intermediate.
