I like the progress, can't wait to see it back together.

On a side note...I don't think there's another vehicle out there that is painted more by its owner than a Jeep.

That is close to what the color was on my MB was wnen I sold it in the '70s. It was orange when we got it and about four other colors under it. I'm not a big fan of orange.

Seams like one step forward, two steps back sometimes...... I got the hood and tailgate painted, but I still can't seam to make any progress on the drivetrain. Some bonehead put the wrong pulley on the generator, so the belt does not fit properly. I managed to find a replacement pulley on ebay, but I am unable to get the old pulley off of the generator (they didn't put a key on the shaft, so I can't loosen the nut.... shaft keeps turning).

I have tightened up the brake lines to the point of stripping out the fittings, but they still leak. may need to buy replacement 'T's or re-flare the new brake lines. :(

spray some penetrating oil on the threads, put on a heavy glove, hold the pulley and use an impact wrench to remove the nut. its the only way I know of to get the pulleys off alternators, generators and power steering pumps without destroying the pulley.

thanks, that worked like a charm. I guess that is one step forward :) as you can see in the pic, the generator still will not travel far enough to install the second bolt. hopefully the belt will stretch a little. ??

I got the fenders on and then I flat towed it about 80 miles to a new location where I can keep it in a garage and work on it a little better. I was so nervous that I forgot to tighten some important bolt or that I forgot to put fluids in something.... or a wheel would fall off.... or a seal would blow and spew oil / grease everywhere.... or? It actually towed very well and arrived safely. :)

Dang, one step back..... I went to take the seats to the upholsters shop, but something moved when I went to lift the drivers seat. I started to pull the vinyl back and found the cross bar completely rusted through. So I guess I will just order some new seats and worry about mounting them later.

What paint and color did you go with. That blue fits that Jeep very well.

the color is called 'royal blue'. it is just rustolium from Lowes. you can get it in quarts for $10. I used it on my 1947 chevy 2 years ago and it is holding up pretty well. I am so bad at body work, I just bring myself to put expensive paint on it.

Great job, how did you paint with the Rust-Oleum, Rust-Oleum primer what kind of gun and did you thin it?

Yes, you still have to put it through a gun. The primer is also available in the same quart cans. It is an oil base paint so you have to thin it with acetone to get it to go through the gun. The can says 10 %, but I found thinning it 25% gives better results... comes out more shiny.

Walmart has real nice campbell housfeld guns for $30 right now.

I think any old air compressor would work. I think paint guns only need a constant 40psi at the gun.
