    Hi,

I bought this CJ5 a couple of weeks ago. First time owning a early model Jeep. I have always owned Wranglers, anyway. I have a problem and I hoped you guys could help. When I turn the ignition to accessory a grinding or knocking sound initiates and continues after start-up until I turn the engine off. I investigated the noise and ended up in the engine bay, I looked down on the drivers side and saw a dial with numbers attached to a metal cylinder. Fuel lines were attached to both ends. It was vibrating and knocking I know it has to be fuel related. Can you guys help? Is this normal or does it mean this part is failing. I guess I can't post a picture, sorry.

    Thank You
    Tim

Agree this sounds like an electric fuel pump. If so then it should not be activated with the switch in the acc. position. Wire the pump so that it operates with the Ignition switch in the "ON" position only. This is the position just before the start.
