I suggested diesel instead of kerosene earlier. The reason for that is the price , availability and the chemical composition is almost identical. Dribble it into the carb while at high idle 1500-2000 rpms. I usually put in a couple cups in the gas tank every other fill up, just to keep her clean in there, also acts as upper cylinder lubricant. Its a win/win situation. Good luck

Dang you guys are good. Never had I ever thought/conceptualized putting ATV, deisel, or spritzed water down a carb, LOL. But I did tonight! Here's the order of events:
    1. changed oil filter to STP filter. Since it was suspected of dissolving, that was the first to go.
    2. Added "GUNK Motor Flush", ran for 5-10 minutes at idle.
    3. Opened up a
    4. During, I couldn't help but to drip some ATV + spray some H20 down the carb. Fun! :D
    5. Drained the oil
    6. Yanked the oil pan
    7. Even had to yank, clean, and reform the nasty pickup screen (see pic)
    8. Replaced screen + pan
    9. Added oil, tossed the 15-minute old STP filter into trash, replaced w/ AC Delco filter.
    10. Ran 'er for 5 or so minutes. Oil pressure at a nice 38 at idle. :)
    11. Cracked open a nuther
    12. Proceeded to do same on the '71
    13. The '71 ran nicely until suddenly shutting off. Huh?? Can't get 'er started. Spent 1.5 hours figgering out why no spark. Still no clue. Blasted!!!

Still a successful night. Thanks all!!!

Chris: Don't iknow if you remember, but years ago (maybe still do) there was something called "Bardol Top Oil". You put the little 5 oz can of it into your fuel. Supposed to lube the combustion chamber. My Dad said is all that it is was diesel. Smelled the same too.

Sounds like the 71's jealous of all the love the other one is getting (they're prone to that...:0
