My '75 build(?)

Hi guys, just starting my "build" thread. Not going full resto, or multi dollar queen, just wanting to make sure Jeep is a good solid veh. Nice enough, or clean enough to put in a car show, but not so nice cant wheel it anymore. When i got the Jeep, I knew it had problems, mainly running and body. Got her running good enough to run this summer, installed seat belts to take grandkids for rides. Recently started tearing her down, knew body was bad, but was way worse than I thought. A prev po evidently had a welder and wasnt afraid to use it. But as much rust as was in body, I guess welding may have been the only solution. Will start posting pics later today.

One question I have. The body was so bad but the frame actually looks really good. How can I tell if this frame and body are original to each other. I looked on frame above rt rear wheel, could not find vin stamp there.

 

Welcome from va. Take a look on top of frame by front pass side shock mount.

Yeah, figger flat black hides a lot of problems, lol. Found between the two tubs I have, the most common tools for Jeep owners to have is a drill and a welder, lol. My newer tub has little rust but plenty of drilled holes for me to fill.

You were right my friend, frame matches.

 

Been awhile, finally got down to frame, had one motor mount bad. Cleaned t-case found why it was so easy to shift into 4wd, missing plugs and detents. Will post pics when I finger it out.

 

Just out of curiosity, started running casting numbers. The tag on valve cover is 111H16, on block 3195527. So according to valve cover, unless its been replaced, this is not the stock engine. The block # covers a wide range, so Ill try and get head casting and run that.

 

Head casting is #3216086 with bridged rockers, so its a 74 engine. Not a big deal, but interesting to me anyway

 

Welded some cracks in frt crossmember, came up with a question. Are the frt spring hangers supposed to approx an 1" further apart than the rear?

 

Well, not much of an update. been working on some of my sons projects, and my new shop isn't as warm as I hoped it would be, so painting is out. Built a stand for my axles, so I can work on them. As soon as something else gets done or started working on again
