They might be early scout or IH pickup parts. They had just as long pitman arms from what I remember.

Put them on a cj, you might run out of travel in your steering box, but you'll have some serious leverage!!

    Back to the seals...

This (SKF 12759) is what I ask Herm for? I have the D44 offset tapperd axle housing.

You need to measure the diameter of the seal surface on your axle shafts. Herm's axle shaft seal surface diameter is 1.250 . If your seal surface is the same, then you could use his special made seal.
The seal that I posted is designed for a slightly larger diameter shaft (1.260). It does seal the shaft but doesn't stretch the seal out to its designed tolerances.

My new to me FF axle shafts OD = 1.250
My old seal is a National 42763 with an OD of 2.286

So...My D44 axle tube must have an ID of 2.286

    I just emailed Herm.

I would just order Herm's special seals since the surface is the same diameter as his shafts

I have and I've tried to reach him on the phone to clear things up. He and I are not communicating well at all...Very frustrating.

I sent a money order yesterday...Let's hope I got it right. Probably should just stop by his shop on my trip, but it would add an hour to what is already a long drive.

I don't know if it is common knowledge, but I was told that he has had some medical issues in the last month or so.

All that I know is that when I was in the middle of installing my ff kit, his son told me that only Herm could answer my question about the seals. When I asked to talk to him, he said that Herm had been hospitalized earlier that morning but should have been out within a couple days. That was around the end on last month.

I hope he's well. He's been good at responding to my emails, but we weren't talking the same language. Today we finally had a break through.

For anyone interested, Herm sells 2 different sizes of axle seals, $12 each:

Tapered axle seals are 1.25 ID and 2.29 OD
Flanged axle seals are 1.25 ID and 2.50 OD

Make sure look at the sizes I listed above. I got a call from Herm today and a lecture for ordering a 2.286 on the order form before confirming what I needed from him. I took rounding up for granted...If you need a 2.286...Order a 2.29! Otherwise you may have the one and only odd ball axle ever made with a 2.286! (y)

He laughed when I thanked him for his help...He said you mean "PITA"...I responded with another thank you. :)

A couple weeks ago my wife asked me to take her camping in the jeep. Just the jeep. I figured that the only way she would enjoy tent camping was if we brought along plenty of creature comforts. I decided to build a second story on the jeep. I purchased a cheap 36"x48" roof basket on amazon and made some cross bars to put it above the soft top. This is a summertime roof basket as you cant have the doors or windows on with the crossbars in place. Within a couple hours time we had plenty of storage.

I was very surprised at how stable the jeep still was with the weight up high. Of course we only put the light goods up there, Tent, bedding, chairs, maybe 100 lbs total cargo plus the rack and cross bars @ 35 lbs total.
My next plan is to get a canoe on top.

I have had issues with the rear tires rubbing the inner fender wells, so I picked up some 1 1/4" wheel spacers and installed them all the way around. They definitely gave me more turning ability and added some stability. I figured that the only way to test them out was in the woods, so off we went. My wife and I were dog sitting my dads German shepherd puppy for the weekend, so we had to move the camping gear outback to make more room.

Everything seems good with the wheel spacers. I still need to re torque them, but I did not get any vibration or wobbles.

Finally received my 1960's Legacy plates. I really like the look. I have been seeing them on all kinds of new cars, I don't think you should be allowed to have one unless your car is of 60's vintage or older. At first glance the plate looks like a random number. Whats really fun is that my wife and I have the same initials. I surprised her with the plate so she thinks KB stands for Kate Borden..... lol
