The electric fan seemed to run all time, but did keep the temp reasonable. I'm only about 8* advanced right now, I haven't adjusted the jets, still a 48 from the factory. I've only made the idle circuit more rich. Motor is only bored 10 over. Not sure about the water pump, it's been on since the beginning, 6500 miles ago.

Maybe the radiator was not in as good a shape as the radiator shop made it out to be. I wish I did know someone close with a new CJ radiator that I could borrow for a test. As it is I'm thinking replacement is my only option to see if that's it.

I'll start with replacing the thermostat, maybe its stuck partially shut? Again, grasping at straws now, but starting with my cheapest alternative and working my way up.

Does your fan have the clutch? Does your egr work if you have one?

I'd start with the thermostat. See how the jeep reacts to it. Maybe put in a 160 degree thermostat to see if it lowers your temp. If it does lower the temp some, then start messing with timing and carb to dial it in. Once it starts lowering more, then put a 180 back in there. We have a 69 F350 with the stock 360 Ford motor and it acts similar to yours. It was running too hot even with a 160 degree thermostat and we yanked it for the time being. We've replaced the radiator, flushed the system, and replaced the water pump and it still runs in normal range with no thermostat when it should be running cool. My next thing to do when I get time is to mess with the carb.

Would a radiator cap rated for more pressure make a difference?

Not that this has anything to do with the fuel issue, but I just looked at the picture of your jeep in the thread you posted in the Trail Rides section. Wonder if the 8274 isn't blocking enough air flow to make a difference in the operating temp? From the angle of the picture it looks like it sits up pretty high.

Yep, the clutch is new, only about a month or two old, and appears to be working correctly still. The EGR is working as well. I currently have a 16lb. cap on the radiator. I don't think the 8274 is blocking the air, the fan pulls in air around it pretty well, in fact I can feel the air blowing when I step out of my Jeep, the fan is definitely moving lots of hot air past the motor.

I appreciate the comments, keep them coming. I will be starting small though then working my way up until I start to see a difference in temp. With cooler weather coming some of this might not be resolved until next year if I don't stumble on it sooner.

Plugs, timing off, collapsed hose, How is your heater core? how close is the carb to the manifold?
Check the oil amount, double check any vacuum lines.

Just for kicks maybe try taking that winch off and doing the highway run. I remember having a scrambler with a snow plow on it. When I drove on the highway to jobs the jeep would overheat and stall out if the plow wasn't angled correctly downward and back. If I left the plow blade horizontal, the air would be directed over the hood at highway speeds and it would run hot no matter that it was 10 degrees out.

Check the mechanical and vacuum advance for total advance.
