    Do the job once.
Do the job right the first time.
    Replace the worn gears.

    Thanks Jim,

Hey Turbo , With all due respect , the folks here and elsewhere on other Jeep forums have all given you the same sound advice about the condition of your B&W T-18 Transmission.
Unfortunately It's Worn out and nothing will change that short of fixing it.
RP 4 Wheel Parts in Portland and Parts Mike in California have all the stuff you need or you can hit the wrecking yards again and see what else you can find.

I'm the first to admit I'm a rank novice on this transmission rebuild. Since this is a bench build I can take it as slow as funds allow and I had planned on going all new anyway, this IH guy may have been in for a bad surprise, but I didn't mean to infer that his was a better way or that he was more knowledgable that the kind folks here and elswhere. I only found it quizzical that a rebuild wouldn't entail a full tilt booge, move next door to ya and yer lawn is gonna die completeness of this task. No harm or foul here and I hope none to members of this thread.

The rounding bothers me much less on the IH transmission than the chipping. The chipping will allow fragments to continue to chip off and run through the rest of the gears, bearings, etc. causing an increased progression of damage.

I'm rather counting on finding much debris stuck to the magnet on the bottom of the case of this transmission given it's age and apparent abuse. Much like a puzzle, I'm looking forward to the months ahead figuring this thing out. :p
