1984 CJ8 project

figured I would post this here . buddy of mine just picked this up . body is rough . frame has been painted and all new lines gas/brake . guy he got it from was doing a frame off . and ran out of money and interest . does run and drive . 6 cylinder PS/PB 3 speed .did come with a T176 transmission in back , maybe picking up a half top for it this weekend

 

Looks nice. Always wanted a CJ8. Personally I would throw in a V8 if I had one.

 

Any idea what 3 speed was swapped in?

 

nick I believe its a T150 ,wide front mounting - angled fill plug , hooked to a dana 20. if he uses the T176. he's going to have to get a dana 300 . but thats the least of his work cut out for him . lots of rust holes on body . still not a bad buy for 3K

is the 8 a 7 with add on after the wheel? looks like its about 12" longer

 

CJ-8 has a longer wheelbase (103" vs 94" for the CJ-7) and sticks out further in the back.

 

Wow, only $3K. Seems like EVERYONE who owns one thinks they're gold and sell it by the ounce at equivalent prices.

I know this might be a old thread , but the jeep just seam to fall apart -RUST - we already knew what he was getting into

This is not rust, but a group of holes. Lot of work but it is a beautiful car. The ideal is to have a CJ5, small car, and a CJ8, long one.

been awhile progress is slow . still doing body work . done with back section

removed both sides to repair wheel tubs and sides . done

test fit of windshield frame and bulkhead . YJ tub

top of YJ now rewelded for CJ dash

 

WOW... i was just thinking I needed an 8 to get measurements off of....

if you feel like spending some quality time with your jeep....
I was looking for firewall back body side measurements..
I'm wondering if CJ8 rocker guards will work on a 6 with a little modification..

You have allot going on there........but I love your perseverance............keep up the good work.......one day you'll walk out into your shop when finished and think gee I need another project!

 

I've always liked the 8's. I've not seen one anywhere near that price for years down in Florida. Most are closer to $10K. Silly money.

 

tarry its not mine . buddy I went to high school with . also my riding buddy . yep when its done , he'll have a better understanding of jeep . he's had two YJ's . but after seeing mine he was hooked on CJ's . he does a good job with metal work . :smash::smash: slow but steady

progress today . starting to look like a jeep again

another couple months have passed . back from paint . man this guy is slow well it was at paint shop 3 weeks
I told him put electric and heater back . dash . his response was I doing other things first . I am starting to believe this is his retirement project . his wife said march . for him to retire

 

well haven't showed much progress . but he's getting there . I probity could put it back together in about 2 weeks time , but it's not mine
